Balancing Act

Juggling career, family, self-care, marriage and more. It can feel like I’m teetering on a balance beam and that one more “thing” coming up will send me tumbling to the ground.

When the ground actually sounds pretty good, that’s when I know I’m in dangerous territory. I know I need to gently climb down off the balance beam to look at where I can adjust some things in my life so I can get back to myself, get back to better balance.

First things first - getting comfortable with uncomfortable feelings and sitting with those feelings for a few minutes simply observing.

Giving myself a few moments reflection is a step in the direction of self-compassion that can lessen the pressure. When I take the time to pause and feel, it allows me to calm down, breathe more deeply and not have a knee-jerk reaction to something or someone that I many regret later.

Those few precious moments give me the space I need to get out of “fight or flight” and be able to feel in my body what next steps are right for me. Whether it’s asking for help, saying no to someone or letting go of expectations, I’m in a better position to determine what I need and move forward to get back to balance.
