First a dream
I’ve always loved the quote, “Nothing happens unless first a dream” by American writer and poet, Carl Sandburg. It reminds me how our dreams inspire us, and how we spring into action to go after them. Our dreams don’t have to be a big idea or huge goal to be meaningful, but if they are, breaking them down into simple steps and having fun with each one along the way makes our dreams much easier to accomplish.
What’s something you’ve been longing to do that you can begin working towards today? Is there a fun trip that’s been in the back of your mind for awhile? Perhaps you’re wanting to find a new hair salon. Take up photography. Learn to do Reiki. Maybe you’ve thought about the gift of self care, like a monthly massage or a yoga class. Whatever it is, we can pare it down to small, simple steps to reach your goal. Research your desire online or ask friends. Figure out the time commitment. Is the cost within your budget? Are there locations close by? Do you need any special equipment? That seems simple enough.
Whatever that dream is for you, think about it right now. Have you got it in your head? Great! Now what are some small steps that could be taken towards it? Write them down, then take one step at a time and be sure to celebrate each one as you accomplish it. We get so swept up in this goal-oriented world, that we forget each step IS a goal in itself, and reason to be proud of ourselves. Because with each step, you are that much closer to your dream.
We’re breaking things down into bite-sized pieces here, but we also don’t want to focus on how many small steps there are to accomplish either. Tightrope walkers don’t get to the other side by looking down. In fact if they do, that’s when they lose their balance, and balance is important. So throughout the process, remember to keep your eye on the prize too. As you take each step towards the thing you want, envision your goal with as many details as possible. Feel into what it would be like to already be doing that activity. By aligning yourself with the energetic resonance of your dream, it actually starts being drawn to you as you move towards it. And when you’re in the flow like that, dreams actually seem to manifest faster, and there’s more joy in the journey it takes to get there.
So, are you ready to take that first step?
